From first contact to return home

A coordinated surgical pathway

The exact sequence depends on the clinical problem, the selected operation and the country of departure. Travel should be booked only after the surgical date and recommended length of stay have been confirmed.

1

Initial assessment

Choose an in-person consultation in Milan or a video consultation through Google Meet.

2

Clinical documentation

For a video consultation, send an abdominal wall ultrasound or, preferably, a CT scan before the appointment. Imaging is not normally required for an in-person first visit.

3

Personalised indication

The appropriate option—REPA, MILA or another procedure—is discussed after assessment. A written quotation follows the surgical evaluation.

4

Preoperative planning

The practice provides the required examinations, documents and organisational instructions before admission.

5

Surgery and hospital stay

The patient is admitted to the surgical facility in Milan. REPA always requires one overnight hospital stay.

6

Postoperative clearance

Travel home is authorised only after the planned postoperative review and according to the individual recovery.

Milan locations

Consultation and surgery in the city centre

Both locations are in central Milan and are accessible by public transport and taxi. The appointment schedule and admission instructions are provided directly by the practice.

Travel and accommodation

How long should you remain in Milan?

There is no single length of stay that is appropriate for every patient. It depends on the operation, the clinical examination, the distance and duration of the return journey, and the availability of assistance after discharge.

For REPA, one night of hospitalization is always planned. After discharge, the patient should remain in Milan until the scheduled postoperative check and formal clearance to travel.

Arrival

Plan to arrive with enough time for the required preoperative appointment and avoid same-day international travel.

Companion

A responsible adult companion is strongly recommended for discharge and the first postoperative period.

Accommodation

Choose accommodation that is easy to reach from the surgical facility and suitable for resting after discharge.

Return journey

Do not purchase non-refundable travel until the recommended departure date has been confirmed.

Important: exact travel, medication, compression-garment and postoperative instructions are individual and are issued only after the clinical assessment.

Minimally invasive options

REPA and MILA in Milan

The surgical technique is selected according to the abdominal wall defect, associated hernias, skin quality, fat distribution and the patient’s objectives. There is no single procedure that is suitable for everyone.

REPA

Minimally invasive endoscopic repair of rectus diastasis, with treatment of associated midline hernias when indicated. It always includes one night of hospitalization.

Frequently asked questions

Planning surgery from abroad

Can the first assessment be completed online?

Yes. A video consultation through Google Meet can be arranged. In that case, an abdominal wall ultrasound or, preferably, a CT scan must be reviewed before the appointment.

Is imaging required before an in-person consultation?

No. Imaging is not normally required for an in-person first consultation because the abdominal wall can be assessed directly. Further examinations may be requested after the visit when clinically appropriate.

How many nights will I stay in hospital?

REPA always requires one overnight hospital stay. The admission pathway for any other procedure is confirmed individually during surgical planning.

Can I fly home immediately after discharge?

No fixed rule applies to every patient. Return travel is authorised only after the planned postoperative review and depends on the procedure, recovery and duration of the journey.

Can I travel alone?

A responsible adult companion is strongly recommended for discharge and the first postoperative period. The specific assistance required will be discussed before surgery.

How are surgical costs determined?

A detailed quotation is provided only after the surgical consultation because the procedure, operating time and required components differ from patient to patient. Care is private; documentation for indirect insurance reimbursement can be provided when applicable.
